Pittsburgh Cultural Trust

Founded in 1984, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is the cultural and economic revitalization of a 14-block arts and entertainment/ residential neighborhood called the Cultural District.  Over 25 years, the trust has restored theaters, constructed new performance venues, and created a welcoming place for all in the Pittsburgh community.  PCT collaborates with the other organizations in the area to create multiple annual events such as the Art Craw and the Three Rivers Arts Festival.

ProArts and the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Alliance merged to form the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council in May of 2005.  GPAC integrates service and support with advocacy to more fully contribute to the growth and health of Pittsburgh’s dynamic arts community.  Its mission is to expand the reach, influence, and effectiveness of the region's diverse and vibrant arts and culture community by providing leadership, advocacy, capacity building, and connections. Through creativity, collaboration, equity, diversity, and accessibility the GPAC is making great strides in the region.

The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts was founded in 1945 and began an art revolution in the Pittsburgh area. Originally called the Arts and Crafts Center of Pittsburgh, the definitive yellow buildings have been educating, promoting, and exhibiting artists works for over 50 years. It is committed to the artist and the advancement of artistic excellence in visual arts. In 2006 PCA merged with the Pittsburgh Filmakers to create one company.

The Pittsburgh Filmakers groups was founded in 1971 as a non profit organization designed to encourage the creation and understanding of media and still photography for noncommercial artistic and literary purposes. In 2006, Pittsburgh Filmakers and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts merged as a single organization to create a better-rounded art advocating company. Its mission is to educate, promote, and advance the local artists work of film including digital video, photography, and other media.

The Pittsburgh Society of Artists is one of the largest guilds in the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts today. Established in 1965, its idea was to give local artists more opportunities to get their works out to the public. Its mission is to support and encourage artist members by promoting the exhibition of original art and developing their talents by presenting educational and art related programs. The guild's works of arts are as diverse as its members.

Craftsmen's Guild

The craftsmen Guild was created in 1944 and is one of the original guilds of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.  This guild is home to a variety of different styles of art.  Its mission is to encourage and promote the highest standards of craftsmanship and artistry among its members, and in all events and affiliations associated with the Guild.  The guild holds its annual A Fair in the Park where many of its members can show off their works of art.

Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, Inc. is a nonprofit, member-supported organization that promotes appreciation of fiber art and fosters its development and continuation. Formally known as the Embroider's Guild, the Fiberarts Guild was created in 1963. Members of the guild are committed to the preservation, development, and continued evolution of fiberarts, including: basketry, beading, book arts, embroidery, crochet, felting, knitting, jewelry, mixed media, quilting, paper art, rug hooking, sculpture, surface design, stitchery, wearables and weaving.

Group A

Originally called the Abstract Group, Group A was one of the original guilds to start the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. It was founded in 1944 on the idea of accepting quality works of art that didn't quite fit into any other guild. Group A is a small group of artists, closely knit and held to exhibiting original, selective, and quality work.

Pittsburgh Print Group

The Pittsburgh Print Group is one of the non-profit guilds of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.  Formed in 1972, the Print Group is dedicated to artistic excellence and the perpetuation of printmaking as an art form by providing its members with exhibition opportunities throughout the southwestern Pennsylvania region.  Through exhibition, education, and networking, members hope to keep this ancient art form going for years to come.

Society of Sculptors

The Society of Sculptors (SOS) is one of the oldest sculpture groups not only locally but also in the country. It was founded in 1935 with a goal to bring together those who love sculpture to promote and advocate it within the community. SOS also strives to promote their members work through exhibitions, galleries, and other educational or career opportunities. SOS was also one of the few original guilds of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Women of Visions, Inc.

Women of Visions, Inc. was created in 1981 to give colored women access into the art world.  Its mission is to promote the art of African American women through self-promotion and education.  It also works as a professional and mentor for entry artists.  The members of Women of Visions, Inc. represent a diverse sampling of artistic styles and media including ceramics, collage, digital arts, fiber arts, installation art, jewelry, mixed-media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
